Never having eaten or cooked deep fried asparagus we were lucky enough to be sent this recipe by Del Merril Asparagus Queen 2012 of Shelby Oceana County Michigan. As soon as we have tried it we will put our pictures up for you to see.

1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup cornstarch
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
1-1/4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup beer or nonalcoholic beer
3 egg whites
2-1/2 pounds fresh asparagus, trimmed
Oil for deep-fat frying
Deep Fried Asparagus seems to be the order of the day at Asparagus Festivals in the USA, you'll find pictures of some very tasty looking samples at Stockton Asparagus Festival.
You will also find that there are deepfried asparagus eating contests. I don't really fancy these eating competitions myself. However you if you think you can eat of the order of 9lbs or so you should line up against Joey Cheshunt who is the Asparagus Eating specialist!
